Summary


This article assists a technician with properly identifying the wiring pin out of a RJ11, RJ14, RJ25 connector or jack for use between a wall jack and phone.

Details


Prerequisites

  • User will need a RJ11, RJ14, RJ25 capable crimp tool to secure the connections inside the connector.
  • User will need a 110-style punch down tool and/or soldering iron to make connections inside the jack (depending on jack style).

Solution: Newer wiring colors (25-Pair code)

  • Position 1 - White/Green (Positive) (Line 3 / Tip)
  • Position 2 - White/Orange (Positive) (Line 2 / Tip)
  • Position 3 - Blue/White (Negative) (Line 1 / Ring)
  • Position 4 - White/Blue (Positive) (Line 1 / Tip)
  • Position 5 - Orange/White (Negative) (Line 2 / Ring)
  • Position 6 - Green/White (Negative) (Line 3 / Ring)

Solution: Older wiring colors (Bell systems)

  • Position 1 - NOT USED
  • Position 2 - Black (Positive) (Line 2 / Tip)
  • Position 3 - Red (Negative) (Line 1 / Ring)
  • Position 4 - Green (Positive) (Line 1 / Tip)
  • Position 5 - Yellow (Negative) (Line 2 / Ring)
  • Position 6 - NOT USED
