This article will assist a technician or installer with obtaining the minimum requirements for an indoor telco backboard mounted inside the customer premise. Please check with your ILEC/CLEC for any special conditions or additional requirements.

Indoor wall mounted backboard minimum requirements for copper circuits

  • 4' x 4' x 3/4" fire rated plywood mounted to studs. (If space permits, use 4' x 8' x 3/4 fire rated plywood).
  • 110v 15amp AC grounded 3 prong duplex outlet (mounted lower right).
  • Grounding bus bar with #6 insulated ground wire attached to the building main power panel neutral (mounted lower center).

  • 4' x 4' x 3/4" fire rated plywood mounted to studs for customer-suite installations. (If space permits, use 4' x 8' x 3/4" fire rated plywood).

  • (Optional, but recommended) Grounding bus bar with #6 insulated ground wire attached to the building main power panel neutral (mounted lower center).

Environmental operating environment requirements

  • Temperature: 40° F - 100° F
  • Relative humidity: 0% - 85% non-condensing
