Description

This article will assist an end-user or technician with fixing NLA error when attempting to use remote desktop to a newer version of Microsoft Windows.

The remote computer required Network Level Authentication, which your computer does not support. For assistance, contact your system administrator or technical support.

Prerequsites

  • Must have Windows XP SP3 or higher installed

Solution

  1. Click Start | Run | regedit | ENTER
  2. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
  3. In the details pane, right-click Security Packages and click Modify
  4. In the Value data box, append tspkg on a new line after any existing data and click OK
  5. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders
  6. In the details pane, right-click SecurityProviders and click Modify
  7. In the Value data box, append credssp.dll after any existing data and click OK
  8. Exit the Registry Editor
  9. Restart the computer
